As a freelance production photographer I have successfully photographed many shows in the subsidised sector. For many years I was the sole photographer at Bristol Old Vic, working in both the studio and the main house. Whilst in Bristol I also undertook work for the much respected Little Theatre and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where in addition to production photography I also ran a popular and long standing course in photography. I trained at LAMDA in technical theatre and was a lighting designer/electrician before turning to production photography. The National Theatre used me to produce the publicity photos for a tour of ‘The Misanthrope’ and I photographed the British Council’s tour of ‘A Midsummer Nights’ Dream’. The director, Tony Cornish, phoned me to say that the photos were, ‘simply beautiful photographs...the nicest theatre photographs I have seen in a very long time…’. Peter Postlethwaite was also pleased with the production photos of his recent tour of 'Scaramouche Jones' writing, 'Your work is... brilliant. Brilliant!' My pictures have been highly successful in terms of getting a good, frequent and often large showing in the upmarket newspapers. My front of house displays have often been praised, on one occasion even making a small article in the local press. A selection of my photos is held as part of the archive at Bristol University.
